What To Expect

Worship services begin at 10 a.m. and are casual at Cambridge Street Baptist Church. Many people wear jeans or dress "business casual."  The most important thing is that you are here among us.  Our services start with music, often songs you might recognize.  Our pastor teaches a bible-based message with practical application to help you live out your faith during the week.  Some services we celebrate communion, but there’s no pressure to participate if you don’t want to.  Services are usually a little over an hour, and then you’re welcome to stay and talk with people afterwards over some light refreshments and snacks.

If you have children under the age of 3 years, we have a nursery area available for use.  All of our staff and volunteers are cleared with a Vulnerable Sector Check from the local police.  For children 3 years old through 5th grade, we have Children’s Church.

Our Story

Cambridge Street Baptist Church was organized on February 2, 1863 by Elder A. McIntyre of Fenelon Falls.  The first minister, Elden A. Cameron began work in early 1864 and the church was received into membership of the Haldimand Association of Baptist Churches on June 30, 1865.

The current church building was constructed in 1873.  In 1886 the building was purchased for about $5000 dollars.  In 1938 the sanctuary was completely remodelled to a centre aisle sanctuary and in 1944 a new pipe organ (which is still in use) was installed in memory of the Morton family.

While certainly times and culture have changed, our message and focus has always remained the same, which is the Good News of salvation in Jesus.

As we grow together in our faith, so has our love for God and the people of Lindsay.  Our ministries include the Ladies Fellowship: Hooks and Needles, the Men's Fellowship, Musical gospel concerts and hymnsings,  missions support locally and worldwide through Canadian Baptist Ministries and various other supports within the community.  We encourage our members to be the hands and feet of Jesus at work, in their neighborhoods, and as a part of the community in Lindsay.  Come visit with us!  A warm welcome awaits you!

Our Beliefs

The Lordship of Christ.   Jesus Christ is Lord of all and to Him must be rendered complete obedience in all things.  He is Sovereign Lord of all, King of Kings, Lord of Lords,.  In matters temporal and spiritual, He alone is Lord and Master, and is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

The Sufficiency of the Scriptures.  The appeal of Baptists is never to ancient customs, the statements of Councils or the tradition of men, but rather, to the Holy Scriptures.

A Regenerate Church Membership.  For Baptists, the Church of Jesus Christ is made up of only those who personally and individually confess Jesus Christ to be Saviour and Lord of their lives.

Believer's Baptism.  Baptism by immersion in water of the believer in Jesus Christ is a solemn and initiatory act of obedience symbolizing the experience of the believer, in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the believer's own putting off of the old nature, his or her death to past self and sins, and rising in newness of life to live and serve Jesus Christ.

The Priesthood of Believers.  The Bible affirms the value of each person as having been created in the image of God, and also declares each person morally responsible for his/her own nature and behaviour.  Baptists believe that inherent in the worth of each person is also the right and the competency of each individual personally to deal directly with God through Jesus Christ.  In essence, each person, by faith, becomes his/her own priest before God; hence, the cherished term "priesthood of all believers." This implies that all believers share as equals in Christ's Body, the church, and in turn, have a priestly role toward each other.

The Autonomy of the Local Congregation.  Baptists have long stressed the autonomy of the local congregation, but in its independence, the local congregation also has an interdependent relationship to other congregations of like faith and order.

Separation of Church and State.  Church and state have separate and different functions to perform and while there may be proper areas for co-operation, neither should invade the special sphere of the other.

Fellowship with Others.  Baptists feel they must faithfully teach and earnestly promote their own basic convictions and so fulfil the particular mission to which they have been divinely called.  They desire also to be friendly and co-operate with Christians of other denominations in the work of Christ's Kingdom.

World Mission.  Baptists believe the Great Commission contained in Matthew 28:18-20 is for them the command of Jesus Christ to carry the Gospel to all the world: "Jesus drew near and said to them, I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth, go then to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And I will be with you always, to the end of the age."

Same Sex Marriage: The Church reserves the term "marriage" for the covenant relationship between one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others.  Members of our leadership, staff or clergy will be allowed to arrange for, officiate at, or take part in the solemnization of a marriage only when it conforms to this definition.
